Colin Smith Memorial Velodrome Opening

Friday, 5 March 2010

Ballarat & Sebastopol Cycling Club, Tuesday March 2, 2010.

CycleSport Victoria would like to congratulate the Ballarat & Sebastopol Cycling Club on the official opening of the Colin Smith Memorial Velodrome on Tuesday of March 2, 2010.

The Velodrome has been home of track cycling in Ballarat since the 1970’s, with numerous resurfacing taking place over the years.

This latest track resurfacing project, worth $350,000, was funded through a Federal Government grant of $280,000 in February 2009 and the Ballarat City Council, who contributed an additional $70,000.

This funding is in addition to a Victorian Government grant, which enabled to club to purchase 30 track bikes, enabling the club to provide a school based track cycling program to the community.

The club hopes that with the upgrade, the City of Ballarat will be able to attract more track cycling events.

A special congratulations must go to Roger Bade, whose tireless efforts to rejuvenate track cycling, both through the school based program, and development of the clubs junior program, lead to this project’s overall success.
