Storms force cancellation of Bendigo International Madison cycling classic
For the first time in 39 years, one of Australia's most prestigious cycling events the Bendigo International Madison was cancelled.
With thousands of fans eagerly anticipating some great cycling action inside Tom Flood Sports Centre, the persistent heavy rain forced organisers to cancel the event at 7pm.
The Bendigo International Madison attracted cyclists from both overseas and interstate, and Committee chairman Warren Sinnott Sinnott was disappointed for both the field and spectators.
“It’s just disappointing that overseas riders did not get the chance to compete here and people didn’t get to see these world champions like Cameron Meyer and Leigh Howard," he said.
“It would have been Leigh’s third if he had won tonight and these are just things you won’t see, which is really disappointing.
“We know that it’s out of our control, but in this case it’s just a matter of letting it go and concentrating on 2011."
Despite the rain on Sunday, there was some high quality racing on Saturday with heats of the Golden Mile Wheelrace plus scratch races across all grades. See results below.
