Marysville - Lake Mountain Fire Relief Ride, Saturday 2nd May, 2009

Amy McCann, Thursday, 5 March 2009

Ten days before Black Saturday the Cyclo Sportif Victoria events team were in Marysville meeting with a number of key community figures from Marysville, Lake Mountain and the surrounding district.  It was decided at this meeting that Marysville and Lake Mountain would host the next event on the Cyclo Sportif Victoria calendar on the 2nd of May this year.

The tragic bushfires that devastated many areas throughout the Murrindindi Shire ensured that all plans for this event were placed on hold.  However, earlier this week the planning process recommenced.

With the blessing of the local organising committee we are expecting the event will proceed on the planned date as a fundraiser for the Bushfire Appeal.  Final approval and permission to access the affected areas is still required by the emergency authorities.  However, we are hopeful this will be received in the next week or two.

No longer is this simply a cycling event, but rather an opportunity for the cycling community to show its support for those individuals and towns affected by the bushfires.  More importantly it provides the towns of the Murrindindi Shire with a chance to show the state that they are ready to commence the long process of rebuilding their lives.

Further details of the Marysville – Lake Mountain Fire Relief Ride will be released as soon as possible.  So keep Saturday 2nd May free and hopefully you can help us make a difference.
