2009 'Go for your life' Tour Challenge - About

A feature of races like the Tour de France is being able to ride one of the key stages of the Tour. In 2009, the 'Go for your life' Tour Challenge gives you the chance to test yourself on Stage 1 of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour a day before the stars tackle the same course.

Starting in Ballarat at 7.00am on Sunday 11th October, the 'Go for your life' Tour Challenge provides recreational cyclists with the option of a 150km or 70km course.  The event takes place on quiet country roads and features scenic views around Creswick, Daylesford and Trentham.

Upon completing the Challenge participants are invited to stick around to watch the stars of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour battle it out in an action packed Criterium around the streets of Ballarat.

This certainly is an event you will not want to miss!

For further details on the 2009 Jayco Herald Sun Tour please see www.heraldsuntour.com.au

2009 Event Review

The 2009 ‘Go for your life’ Tour Challenge took place on Sunday October 11th 2009. Cyclists from all over Victoria were treated to perfect riding conditions on a beautiful Spring day in Ballarat.

The event was organised by Cycle Sport Victoria, with the support of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour and ‘Go for your life’. The day would not have been possible without the assistance by the wonderful volunteers from the Trentham and Glenlyon CFA.

Participants had the option of choosing either the 70 kilometre short course or 150 kilometre long course. Both courses offered cyclists beautiful county scenery and a number of challenging climbs and rolling hills as they tested themselves on stage 1 of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour a day before the stars talked the same course.

Aid Stations at Newlyn, Trentham and Glenlyon allowed cyclists to refuel with light refreshments as they made their way through the course. The SRAM support vehicles were on hand to provide mechanical assistance to cyclists throughout the event along with Event Medical Services Australia ensuring cyclists were well looked after.

Upon completing the Challenge many participants stuck around to watch the stars of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour battle it out in an action packed Criterium around the streets of Ballarat which was well attended by more than 20 thousand spectators.

Thank you too all who took part on the day.

Participant Feedback

‘A well run event: - being able to ride the course of one of the Tour stages is a big attraction - the course had plenty of variety with some significant hills as well as flatter faster sections - event marshalls (and the SRAM reps) were prominent in both vehicles and at road turn points. That is a big "plus", adding to the sense of safety for riders - also, the stopping points were well provided with food and water and that's something that doesn't always happen in public ride events.’ Robert- Hawthorn

‘Great event that was well ran. A great alternative to Around the Bay. When people realise there are more interesting alternatives to a.t.b , your events will attract the numbers that they deserve. Cheers for an enjoyable experience.’ Enrico- Frankston

‘Very friendly & helpful support at the beginning, at the end & throughout the ride The weather was fantastic I saw plenty of medical & SRAM support - better than I expected Great to see 2 x Jayco Hearal Sun teams riding the course as we rode back to Ballarat I had such a great time I end up staying longer for all The Jayco events Many Thanks was a great experience It was very much worth the drive from Melbourne I will be back next year’- Rod- Vermont South

‘Thought the event was well run and look forward to participating in more events.’ Bruce- Macedon Rangers
